Prices for goods purchased by American businesses surged more than expected in July and have jumped by nearly 10 percent over the last year -- the sharpest increase since 1981.
High costs always hurt living standards globally-now is the time to reduce costs!

From the page: "With 50% of the world's oil now used up, production isn't getting any easier. As the cost of steel and raw materials have risen, so has the cost of extracting oil â€" by 6% in the past six months and by 100% since 2000. With governments in the former USSR and Middle East difficult to deal with, and fears that all easily extractable oil has been tapped
----------------------------------------------------------
(although an almost limitless amount of oil can be extracted from bitumen, shale and even coal through elaborate processing, which costs $70 a barrel) and we've reached some intangible geological barrier, prices will not fall dramatically any time soon.
-------------------------------------------------------
With China and India's consumption rising by 7.5% and 5.5% a year respectively, their fuel consumption is expected to rise by 60% by 2020. State subsidies from China, India and the Middle East of $50bn a year keep prices low and do little to encourage frugality.
As for speculators pushing up oil prices, it's a red-herring, albeit a handy one for politicians seeking someone to blame."
NOTE the price what - it can be US $ 70 and what it is today-who is responsible and what more must be done to reduce living expenses-may Allah (SWT) help all.Aameen !

Take this with a pinch of salt - many companies do some good work in developing countries - the alternative is no work being done so no income or food for people in developing countries!

From the page: "Mayor Rayapati Mohan Sai Krishna has vowed that resolving the drinking water crisis will be accorded top priority in the coming two months. Speaking at a meeting organised by `Avagahana†here on Thursday, he admitted that the present supply of about 75 Million Litres per Day (MLD) was not enough to cater to the demands of the growing population and has asked the officials to see to it that the timings of the were supply be notified earlier so that women are not put to undue hardship.
Plans are on the anvil to find out a new water source by next year and lay the long pending water pipe line from Mangalagiri to Takkelapadu so that the second 10 MGD water filtration plant was put to use. Laying of this pipe line would meet the demands of water supply for the coming seven to eight years, he said."

From the page: "Australia's government promised Tuesday to spend about $2.9 billion to buy river water from farmers in a bid to address the country's worst drought in a century." The National Farmers' Federation, a farming advocacy group, agreed that too much water was being drained from the river system for farms. But NFF chief executive officer Ben Fargher said the government must not compel farmers to give up their allocated water.
"We know there have been over-allocation problems, and therefore we're happy to talk to the government about buying back water as long as it's from willing sellers," Fargher told Sky television.
Wong did not say whether farmers could be forced to give up water.
Scary!

"Some believed that a prolonged and severe economic downturn could not be ruled out given the further restriction of credit availability and ongoing weakness in the housing market," minutes of the March 18 meeting said.
Fed economists presented a somber picture of short-term prospects -- central bank staff now fully expect negative growth over the first six months of the year -- but held out the possibility of a modest rebound later.
"The staff projection showed a contraction of real GDP in the first half of 2008 followed by a slow rise in the second half," the report said, referring to gross domestic product, a broad measure of a country's output of goods and services.
