A megawatt is enough power to run a large Wal-Mart store. The power will be sold to Pacific Gas & Electric, which is under a state mandate to get 20 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2010. The utility said that it expected the new plants, which will use photovoltaic technology to turn sunlight directly into electricity, to be competitive with other renewable energy sources, including wind turbines and solar thermal plants, which use the sun's heat to boil water.

Al Attiyah told the Al Jazeera television channel Wednesday that demand for oil would continue and the world would face energy shortage, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported. Countries like India and China would face a great problem in electricity production, even though oil production by oil producing countries would remain adequate. The minister attributed the recent fall in world oil prices to speculations and said that the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) would intervene if oil supply exceeds demand in the markets. He said that there were expectations that demand would shrink and that Opec would take appropriate measures in order to maintain the balance between supply and demand. Oil prices had nearly double from around $70 a barrel in August last year to over $140 a barrel in June this year. The prices are currently hovering around $115 a barrel mark." Smacks of greed !
